Hoa Recos Bora As part of the Dine & Discover NSW program Hunter Region Botanic Gardens has put together a series of plant and the natural environment talks & workshops GARDENS LIVING PLANTS - SUCCULENT ART FOR YOUR HOME DÉCOR ORCHID TALK AND TOUR OF ORCHID HOUSES Noted Orchid specialist, Stu Webb, will be presenting 6 information sessions. Sessions will be held at the Botanic Gardens on the following Tuesdays commencing at 10.00am. Tuesday 27th April Tuesday 11th May Tuesday 8th June Tuesday 22nd June Join Anne Chaney - Curator of the Cottage Garden Wednesday 10am 28th of April 2021 At Hunter Region Botanic Gardens 2100 Pacific Highway Heatherbrae 2324 Each session will include a talk and tour of the Orchid Houses. Your $25 DISCOVER VOUCHER will include entry to the Gardens and the talk and tour. Learn about why cactus & succulent are a perfect plant for your lifestyle. Workshop includes: suculent art bowl which you can decorate and plant to take home a walk through the succulent/cactus theme Garden Aerial Orchid Giveaways wil be included - while supplies last. Those without a voucher are more than welcome to attend. The cost will be $25. BONSAI TALK AND COLLABORATIVE DISPLAY informative talk about succulents Bonsai enthusiast Alison Abbott, will be presenting 4 Bonsai educational sessions for beginners. Sessions will be held at the Botanic Gardens from 10.00am to 11.30am on: Friday 30th April Saturday 1st May Friday 7th May Saturday Sth May Each session will include a talk, demonstration and O & A A Bonsai display will be open each day trom 10.00am to 3.00pm. Areas covered: How to grow Arrangement of plants Decorations What plants to use When to water INDIGENOUS WORKSHOPSS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT THE USE OF PLANTS BY INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS As part of our DINE & DISCOVER NSW program of events, the Botanic Gardens will conduct an educational program which reflects aspects of the culture of local Aboriginal people. Sunday 2nd May at 10.00am - A Koori Walk will be led by Indigenous Guide Kevin Riley and include a morning tea, a talk on the Aboriginal use of plants as food, medicine and tools, then a walk along the Gundabooka track to observe some of the plants on site. Sunday 16th May at 10.30am - The Bush Tucker Experience will be hosted by Indigenous Guide, Kevin Riley and include morning tea and a talk on growing Australian native plants for food, then a walk through the Gundabooka and Rainforest gardens. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED URGENTLY AT THE BOTANIC GARDENS Positions are currently available for volunteers in Gardening and Grounds Maintenance, Building Maintenance, Cafe and Catering Services, Administration and Tour Guiding. We currently have around 200 volunteers, both men and women, from most parts of the Lower Hunter but more are needed at this busy time of the year - DAYS AND HOURS ARE NEGOTIABLE. Once you start volunteering at the Botanic Gardens you'll be hooked. Many of our volunteers have reached more than 5 years of service. The Botanic Gardens is registered with Centrelink to provide voluntary work opportunities for eligible job seekers. Some of our younger volunteers have used the training and experience gained at the Gardens to obtain paid employment.
