Jenny Aitchison was elected as the Member for Maitland on March 28th, 2015 with a margin of 13.9%.
As a small business owner and mother of two school age children, Jenny understands the pressures local families face and the challenges facing Maitland as one of the fastest growing communities in NSW.
Maitland urgently needs better local services and infrastructure to support families and generate job growth.
Working hard for everyone
In addition to her work as the Member for Maitland, Jenny is also committed to volunteer work and mentoring. She is Patron of the following organisations: Maitland University of the Third Age (U3A), Maitland Regional Art Gallery Members Committee, Maitland District Cricket Umpires Association, Rutherford District Girl Guides, Maitland & District Genealogical Society, Maitland branch of the Northern NSW Federation of Justices of the Peace and the Maitland Invitation Racing Pigeon Club. and is an ex-officio member of the Maitland Business Chamber.
Jenny was an active member of the Bus and Coach Association of NSW and the Maitland Tourism Advisory Group, and is a former board member of the Lower Hunter Business Enterprise Centre.
Jenny helped establish and was the Foundation President of the Hunter Women’s Network in 2005. She has won a number of state and national business awards including:

2005 – Outstanding Contribution to Tourism in Maitland
2006 – Bus NSW Achievement Award
2006 – National Bus Industry Confederation Award
Putting Maitland first
As a fast-growing region Maitland needs a passionate advocate. Jenny is holding the government to account over the urgently-needed Lower Hunter Hospital, investment in critical roads and education infrastructure in our city. Jenny campaigned and lobbied hard to stop the Baird Liberal Government cutting our access to Newcastle CBD with the rail truncation. She continues to lobby for better transport infrastructure.
Jenny provided a great deal of support assistance to members of the Maitland community after the storms which ravaged the city in April 2015. She lobbied for crucial Category C funding for rural properties to enable farmers to continue their businesses and connected many members of the community with health, housing and community services during the crisis and afterwards.
Cuts to health, community counselling, TAFE, and other essential services are of great concern to Jenny and she continues to fight to ensure that the Maitland Community is not disadvantaged by the government’s savage budget cuts.
